Here's a nifty little random fill played in a 6/8 time utilizing a stacker or other auxiliary hi-hat type thing it sounds pretty rad. Give it a shot!
Here's a cover of the Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine with my very own transcription at the bottom. Transcription should be almost 100% accurate to the drumming in the song but not necessarily my playing.
I've been working quite a bit on comfortably playing polymetric rhythms. That's when at least one limb plays a different time signature from the rest of the limbs and the full pattern doesn't repeat for a couple measures (In this case 3 measures, the right hand is doing a 3/4 on the cowbell when the rhythm changes.) It's really good coordination practice, but can take some time getting comfortable with. This one is relatively advanced, but should give you an idea of how this concept works. Here's the transcription for when the phrase goes into the polymetric portion. It starts on the second measure, I thought it sounded cooler that way!
I recently got a cymbal stacker and created this tasty little groove. Here's the Transcription. First part played with the stacker is a paradiddle-diddle, so the left hand is playing the hi-hat while the right is on the stacker.
Set up the 'ole cowbell after quite some time so I had to play around with it. Here's a groove I was toying with that's pretty fun to play. Enjoy! *The transcription is just for the core groove, not the subtle variations.
Here's a Linear triplet fill to play around with and add to your arsenal if you so desire. Have fun!
This is the first part of the Kendrick Lamar song 'XXX'. The quick 32nd notes on the hat are played with a RLL sticking, but can be played all with the right hand with enough practice. Try it both ways! The drums here start on the second measure of the transcription, as they do in the song.

Here's an exercise revolving around the Samba backbone. This is great for developing coordination and independence! Play each pattern 4-8 times, notice that the second measure will be different from the first when played in a 4/4 time signature, making the pattern poly-metric!
